ESC. Lourdes Bermudez

Author, Educator, and Public Speaker

BIO:

ESC. Lourdes Bermudez was born on February 14, 1961 in Caguas, Puerto Rico.  Even as a child, Ms. Bermudez was a gifted and captivating story teller.  Her love for writing began at a very young age.  Ms. Bermudez worked hard to obtain her high school degree from Jose Gautier Benitez High School as well as attending college (post-secondary classes) at Universidad del Turabo in Caguas, Puerto Rico, where she excelled in language.

She is the mother of five children.  Lourdes has made numerous visits to the United States—periodically living in Chicago, New Jersey and Lorain, Ohio.  In the midst of her many responsibilities,  Ms. Bermudez was able to compose and publish three books as well as establish her own publishing company in Puerto Rico, Empresas Bermudez Publishing (Bermudez Enterprises Publishing).  Her most recent book, Victims? Sold over 100,000 copies in Puerto Rico and this book was recently translated into English.  The book, Victims? is now available in a bilingual edition of both Spanish and English in the U.S. A.

ESC. Bermudez has achieved enormous recognition from her peer-authors and colleagues in Puerto Rico.  So much so, they refer to her as “Doctor Bermudez”.  After having presented dozens of lectures on the topic of “emotional, psychological, physical, and sexual abuse of children” in Puerto Rico, Dr. Bermudez returned to the United States in March of 2005.

She came to the United States to touring for three years, to continue her lectures on how to break the cycle of abuse, and to sell her very popular book, Victims?

Dr. Mary Hilaire Tavenner, a Doctor of Philosophy, in the area of reading and language arts from the University of South Florida, Tampa, mentored Ms. Bermudez in the “Socratic School” of one teacher/one student.  Ms. Bermudez flourished in this environ and continues to successfully lecture in the United States, teaching her message of “breaking the cycles of abuse” in Cincinnati, Columbus, Mentor, and Cleveland, Ohio; Toronto, Canada; Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester and Newark, New York as well as scheduled visits to Bridgeport and Hartford, Connecticut, Wisconsin, etc.…

ESC. Bermudez  leads an international “Campaign to Support Writers” throughout the world.  She believes the writers deserve great respect for their demanding role within societies.  No nation can enjoy  literacy without the men and women who produce the text.

ESC. Bermudez is a dynamic, extremely passionate and well-informed presenter in the field of “abuse”.  She is a nationally recognized authority in both Puerto Rico and in the United States.  She plans to take her campaign to Europe after completing her tour in America.

Based on her many academic and educational achievements, Ms. Bermudez has been presented by her mentor and English teacher, Dr. Mary Hilaire Tavenner, with a “Certificate of Verification” as having earned the honor of being a “master, learned, authoritative teacher”.  This honorary title is based upon Ms. Bermudez’s prowess as a writer and public speaker, and her tireless work to educate the public about a most disdainful and distasteful topic: the abuse of our children.

ESC. Bermudez has lectured for countless professional agencies, churches, and institutions of higher learning in her homeland of Puerto Rico and in the United States.  She frequently counsels the abuser and presents concrete solutions to an abominable sickness.

ESC. Bermudez has established a foundation for the purpose of educating the public in how to help end sexual abuse, domestic violence and the exploitation of children throughout the world.

Her foundation also supports an orphanage in the Dominican Republic.  If you care to help in this cause, please send $5.00 to the AELB, “Breaking the Cycle of Abuse” Foundation at P.O. Box 6465, Caguas, Puerto Rico, 00726.
